Our old rescue truck is now in service with the Smyrna NY fire department. This is the original 1971 body produced by Saulsbury and installed on an F 350 Ford one ton chassis. This small chassis was always somewhat inadequate and we had it remounted on to a new 1979 International S 1700 chassis in 1980. The new chassis was 18 inches longer behind the cab to the rear axle so we had a local body shop and metal fabricator add a locker compartment to fill the space. It was finished with our normal yellow and while paint scheme and carried a remote start Onan power plant floodlights, hydraulic tools and other normal rescue equipment. This rig was set up as we have several since then, with a designated rescue side and fireside for equipment storage. In other words the left side was designated to hold rescue equipment and the right side held fire support equipment. This helps personnel in locating a particular tool or piece of equipment quickly when needed.
This truck was a victim of rust and was replaced in 1988
